Back to School Night

Welcome parents! Please make sure you have signed in on the sign in sheets at the counter, and then feel free to read about any topics you are interested in. I will be around to answer any questions you might have.

About Our Class
This class is part exploratory technology (beginning computers) and part math support. Throughout the year your children will study basic keyboarding and computer skills as well has spend some time each week working on polishing their math skills. They will do this by by analyzing their mistakes on quizzes and tests and by working on exercises in the KhanAcademy math program (see below).

About This Blog
This is the first place students go when they come in the computer lab. Here they can find a post giving them their directions for the period as well as links to other websites that we use frequently. You can find our class links in the column on the right side of this page. This page is constantly changing and so are the links! I will be adding and deleting links and other information as necessary so check back often!

Important Websites
I would like you to be aware of two important websites that your children are expected to use frequently.
• PowerSchool

PowerSchool
This is where students can log in to view their grades including all assignments that their teachers have entered in the grade book. If you would like to log in to your child's account and view their grades, please take the following steps.

1. Go to the PowerSchool login page by clicking on the link above or in the list of links on the right.

2. Enter their User Name and Password.
• User Name: School ID number (see me if you need this)
• Password: Date of birth without any 0s as placeholders (June 1, 2000 = 612000)

KhanAcademy
This is where students can go to work on practice math problems and have access to thousands of instructional videos. These videos cover every math topic that your children need to master this year. The best thing about this program is that students are able to log in so that the program will record their progress. They can then add 'coaches' who are able to view their progress at any time and see their work from any given day.

If you would like access to your child's progress along with all of the available data, please take the following steps.

1. Log in to KhanAcademy yourself (you may do so with either a Google or Facebook account).

2. Have your child add you as their coach (they should know how to do this, but if not there are directions on your account once you log in to KhanAcademy).

I encourage all parents to start their own KhanAcademy account! If you do, you will be able to:
• View your child's progress
• Compete with your child by earning your own points and badges as you pass off your own exercises
• Brush up on old skills to be able to answer your child's math questions at home
• Learn something new (there is more than just math!)
